Second to none: Koenigsegg One:1
Ask almost anyone interested in supercars, who the current benchmark supercar brand is. The answer will almost certainly be Koenigsegg. Yes, Koenigsegg Automotive AB is indeed one of the major players in this exclusive segment. Even though the company is just 20 years old, Koenigsegg have risen to the top in a very rapid manner. A segment where there is no points for second place. Stiff competition pushes Koenigsegg to always stay on top of their game. Always pushing themselves to be faster than the competitors. The last month or so has been very successful for the small brand from Ängelholm in the southern Sweden. First Koenigsegg went to Japan where they beat the lap time on the famous F1 circuit Suzuka. They later went on to do the same on Spa Francorchamps in Belgium. The world was left stunned by the new kid on the block who just had knocked the big boys to the ground – twice. But the Swedes were not done, not by a long shot. Today Koenigsegg have released a rather crazy video of the One:1 chassis number 106 smashing all the old world records that Koenigsegg set in 2011 with the Agera R. Sure, Hennessey Venom GT snatched the 0-300 km/h record from the Agera R for a short period, but the rightful king has again taken back the throne from the Yankee. The new king of acceleration is the Koenigsegg One:1. How is this possible you might wonder? Well, thanks to a highly tuned 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8 delivering a whopping 1360 hp. And the car only weights 1360 kg. That is the short answer anyway. If you ask the designers and engineers on Koenigsegg the answer will be a lot more complex and boring. Here is the list of all the different records Koenigsegg One:1 managed to achieve. The funny thing i that Koenigsegg say that the records where broken during the practice runs. Click here to see the crazy video of Koenigsegg test driver, Robert Serwanski breaking the old records – without his hands on the steering wheel … Yepp, you read correctly! Koenigsegg themselves have a saying. ”The only thing faster than a Koenigsegg is another Koenigsegg”. That has proven to be pretty damn accurate. Here is a complete list of all the different records Koenigsegg One:1 achieved. 0-300 kmh: 11.922 seconds 300-0 kmh: 6.032 seconds 0-300-0 kmh: 17.95 seconds 0-200 mph: 14.328 seconds 200-0 mph: 6.384 seconds 0-200-0 mph: 20.71 seconds
As a comparison the Lamborghini Aventador, which I love with all my heart, will do the 0-300 km/h sprint in 24 seconds. That is half as fast as the One:1. I know they are not in any way competitors. But still the difference between a very very fast car, and a One:1 is unbelievable.
